Navigating the SurvivalRing webring…

SurvivalRing is more then just a giant collection of links on similar topics, as you can see by the new additions and areas of this web site. But, it IS one of the BEST sources of preparedness links you’ll find. Normally, a visitor into the webring could use any of the NORMAL webring links that are found on ANY members site, or the SurvivalRing homepage, to circumnavigate the ring, seeing what they could find or stumble across while mining the ring for that golden info that we all look for. There ARE other ways to travel around this ring then just using the NEXT button, and THIS page you are now reading will tell you all the ways you can wander around our little corner of the ‘net.

From the WEBRING links for SurvivalRing, found on the home page or ANY members site, you can use any of those links within the SurvivalRing webring table (the html that has the two tornado images, the SurvivalRing Site info, and the several RING navigation links that are on ANY webring’s pages…see EXAMPLE “A” below). This is just the beginning of how you can use SurvivalRing.

This SurvivalRing site is owned by THE RINGMASTER
Richard Fleetwood.

EXAMPLE “A”

First a note to help you understand webrings in general, so you may understand a little bit more how sites interact in this ring. When a new website joins a webring, such as SurvivalRing, the new site is issued a SITE ID number, which signifies that site’s place within THAT webring. As long as the site has the proper html linkage on their page, and is within content guidelines, it will retain that UNIQUE site id. All webring navigation THRU Webring.org MUST have this site id to function correctly when moving AROUND the webring. The links for navigation within SurvivalRing as mentioned on THIS page may or may not use the site id, per se, to bring up that page, but nevertheless, the SITE ID is always important, so I wanted to bring it to your attention for future reference.

The [List Sites] button that you’ll find in this webring code mentioned above is the best way to see the LATEST additions to the webring, as all NEW sites are added to the TOP of the rings link structure. This link uses the Webring.org SurvivalRing database to dynamically (meaning real time) generate the pages listing the member sites using the absolute latest ring member data, with 20 member sites per page.

The order that the sites appear in are set first by the latest additions to the top, BUT this ring “ORDER” of sites is re-sorted every 3 weeks, using a STAGGERED setting that allows Webring to automatically resort the sites and place NEW sites with low hit counts, directly after older more visited sites within the webring. What this does is help more people find different sites on each visit, and help newer ring members get more hits (visitors) to their pages. Different sort settings and time delays have been tried the past 18 months, and the current setting seem to offer the optimum setting for this ring.

The [Full List] links found in the SurvivalRing Homepage menus displays to visitors custom pages edited and modified by the ringmaster to show the maximum amount of data regarding each and every site in the webring, with 50 sites per page being displayed. These pages (currently a total of 14) are updated once a month to show the LATEST update to the data system, again keying on the maximum amount of info for the visitor to use to find what they are looking for. Listing of keyword, site description, site Url, site owner name and email are found in these pages.

The [Fast List] links can be used for those just wanting to BROWSE site titles looking for something that catches their eye. This set of pages also is updated ONCE a month by the ringmaster, and has 50 sites per page (also currently using 14 pages).

The Stats link found on the ring homepage, within the member sites webring html, or via the webring.org system will display the top 25 members sites based on number of visitors from, or thru, the ring. This will fluctuate in total counts thruout the year, and is somewhat connected to the seasons, with summer being a lowpoint as more people enjoy the outdoors and less hang out online. A visual representation via a barchart will give you an idea of the last 8 weeks of ring growth, visits or lack thereof. From this page you can visit the ALLSITES page, where you will see a listing of ALL MEMBER SITES, sorted by visitor count, with hit counts for the past 2 weeks and past 8 weeks. Both these pages are updated ONCE a month.

The new Search function allows visitors to do searches for JUST the info they wish to locate WITHIN the SurvivalRing, and they can ALSO search Webring.org’s system for OTHER topics as well. The search function is only as good as the data input by the member sites at sign up, but they can and do have the ability to modify and UPDATE their site data as the need arises, using the SITE MANAGEMENT system, so that future searches will be more precise and helpful.

Our new Site Map page lists ALL the pages in SurvivalRing’s website by PAGE TITLE, and this may be useful to you to help locate info on the ring itself.

Finally, as new navigation tools get developed thru Webring.org, or thru 3rd party projects, and are considered helpful and useful to this ring, they will be added as they can.

We hope you will find SurvivalRing a useful addition to your daily life, and will use it to improve your skills, research ability, and communications possibilities. Good luck, and stay tuned….it’s just getting started.
